Gourmet Birds Destinations, Dates and Details, 2008

SPAIN: IN SEARCH OF LAMMERGEIERS AND WALLCREEPERS in the Sierra Guara, 10th to 15th March (five nights). This five-night trip is to one of the most spectacular pre-Pyrenean massifs, with towering limestone cliffs and a rich variety of birds of prey. We can be confident of seeing lammergeiers, as the area has the densest population of these spectacular birds of anywhere in Europe. It is also famous for the numbers of wallcreepers that winter here. In addition we should find a wide variety of other species, including the chance to see larks and sandgrouse in the Monegros. Flights (with Ryanair) to Zaragoza are extra (expect to pay around £50), while the holiday costs £575 (no SRS). The family-run hotel we use is both charming and comfortable, and the food excellent.
