Gourmet Birds Destinations, Dates and Details, 2008
GREECE Over the last 25 years we have organised holidays to 16 European countries, but somewhat surprisingly not to Greece. To make up for this we plan to visit the Kerkini wetlands in north-east Greece for our May trip (8th to 15th, seven nights). This extensive wetland lies close to the border with Bulgaria: it promises to be one of the most rewarding and exciting European destinations we have visited, offering eastern specialities such as Dalmatian pelicans and pygmy cormorants with four species of breeding shrikes and an exceptionally rich variety of warblers. With nearby mountains offering the chance of rock thrushes and rock nuthatches plus lots of raptors we can expect a memorable week. £795 (no SRS) plus flights to Thessalonica.
